Embroidery Floss Holders

Cross stitching is one of my favorite crafts.

However, the floss is hard to keep organized, once I have started a new skein.

At first I used hardware containers.

But for me this doesn't work. The skeins would get stuck in the back of the drawer, or worse; on the sides.

I also seem to be fairly rough on my skeins. Once I start using them, they unravel quicker and the wrapper (with the numbers) falls off.

GAH, I hate when that happens.

So I thought about using those floss bobbins. However, after some quick mental calculation, I figured that would cost more than I want to spend.

So I made my own.

I started with some cardboard.

Found a pattern online.

Obviously, I had to make cute ones.

Got carpal tunnel cutting them all out.

Now, for some mindless skein unwinding.

New Critter

for the Munchkin.

This was the pattern I created for Itty Bitty, that little big sister had to have too. And first, even.

It's an easy pattern, only takes an hour.

And thanks to these great frames I had stashed away from IKEA, now they are almost ready to hang. (Just need to iron out the ring marks and stretch the canvas out.)

Itty Bitty's Nursery

has a sea critter theme; octopi, seahorses, jellyfish, etc.

I came up with a couple of cross stitch designs for her room.

Munchkin wanted one for her room too.

Her choice?

A shark.

Yes, my cute as a button 6 year old absolutely LOVES sharks.

o.O

Of course, I made her one.

Not too scary, and she loves it. Told me it was so cool.

Finally!

A model from this century.

With instructions even.

My Mother's Day present this year. (Not a faux pas on the Mister's part, I actually had it on my wishlist.)

And to complicate my life further, I got ambitious and bought this;

An embroidery machine. Plus 61 spools of thread. Different needles.

Well when I decide to do something I certainly go whole hog!
